Platforms & Legislation
Integrity. Wisdom. Conservative Principles. I give Senate District 17 a voice in legislative leadership.
In the years that I've been privileged to serve in the Utah Legislature, I've been able to help a lot of people through important legislation. Below, you'll find my view on some important issues. You should know that I'm strong in my conservative values. I'm grateful to be a Republican Senator in this great state.
I have a military background. Like most of my constituents, I'm very close to men and women that have served this country. I've made it a personal mission to make sure that these important people have a voice at the Utah State Legislature. I've sponsored a number of bills that do everything from allowing a veterans to display a license plate indicating which campaign or theater they served in to making sure that the family members of active servicemen and women are receiving the care that they need.
We have amazing educators in this state. We also have amazing students and parents. Utah schools have always punched above their weight in delivering superior academic results. That being said, we need to make sure our schools can succeed. In providing support, we need to ensure that transparency and accountability help us measure our investment. We also need to encourage parents and guardian to be actively involved in educating the children in their lives.
I believe the family is the most important human institution. It is a source of strength for society and helps to create strong individuals. As a legislator, I want to promote legislation that builds families up.
I'm a support of the 2nd Amendment. I believe that we have a constitutional right to bare arms. I will work to defend that right for those in this state that wish to own guns. That being said, we must be responsible. Safety should always be a concern.
Protecting Utah's History
I have passed legislation to ensure that our state's unique and rich history is protected. Recently, for example, I sponsored a concurrent resolution to recognize the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad.
